POINTS OF UNITY
Our current immigration system is broken.
A real solution is an immigration reform that strengthens our families, community and economy by creating a fair and just pathway for Permanent Residency and Citizenship.
Earned legalization should be affordable, confidential, and compassionate.
The back of the line approach proposed by President Obama and the Senate proposal is intolerable
Full worker rights
Mandatory E-Verify will create a permanent exploited underclass for those individuals who cannot obtain a work permit in the future.
More visas in the family preference system to unite family members
Include LGTB immigrant families
Stop the deportation and separation of our community
BACKGROUND INFO
United Immigrants Movement was formed late 2012 and the purpose of this student-led coalition is to move beyond Deferred Action and win an immigration reform that recognizes the contributions of undocumented students, their undocumented parents and immigrant community members.
This year the political environment is favoring of the passing an immigration reform. The question is what type of immigration reform do we want and if we have the people power to achieve it. We believe that we need to take action to win the change we want to see.
