This past March 9, 2013, ABSV presented three workshops at the Pilipino Youth Leadership Conference (PYLC) at Stanford University. ABSV commends the Pilipino American Student Union (PASU) at Stanford for going “off the page” and putting on a dope conference for over 50 high school students. The conference connected the students with community-based Filipino organizations such as ABSV, Pilipino Association of Workers and Immigrants (PAWIS) of Silicon Valley, Babae-SF, National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON) and many more. The youth explored many issues including Filipino identity, land reform, cultural dance, and propaganda-making, to name a few. And to top it all off, the youth showcased their talents with an open mic and enjoyed a concert at the end of the night featuring Filipino artists such as Bandung 55 and Caroline Calderon.
As ABSV, we hope to continue to work with PASU and high school students to build a growing youth movement in the area. Stay tuned for more! In the meantime, check out our collection of pictures, videos, and media from the conference. Enjoy!
