Wednesday, 5/22 — Assembly Bill 123 — the California bill to add school instruction on the Filipino contribution to the farmworker movement — will be voted on the assembly appropriations committee this Friday May 24th. If it passes, it will move on to be voted on the entire assembly floor in the next week.
The AB 123 NorCal coalition is asking everyone to call assembly members this Wednesday, May 22 from 9 am to 5pm. This is important to show our assembly members that our community cares about this bill and our history from the Filipino farmworkers.
Here is a list of assembly members in the appropriations committee and their contact information:

Here is a sample script:
“Hello, my name is (YOUR NAME) and I am a student / worker from (NAME OF SCHOOL / ORGANIZATION). I am calling to let Assemblymember (NAME OF ASSEMBLYMEMBER) know that students / workers from (NAME OF SCHOOL / ORGANIZATION ) and the Filipino community support AB123, and we hope that the Assemblymember will show HIS/HER support at the hearing on May 24th.”
**This is really all you need to say (change the parts in all caps). You will most likely be speaking to staff members who will be tallying the number of calls they receive. You just need to get the message across, and the staff member will relay how much support the bill has to the legislator. They will probably just say thank you, or that they will take the message, and then you hang up. you can change the blue text to any title you want such as organization member etc.**
Please see the facebook events page for more information. Be sure to update and write on the events wall once you have called so we know you called!
